
Appointment of Graduate Civil / Structural Engineer
We are a well established consulting engineering practice specialising in building conservation. The head office is in Appleby in Cumbria, with a second office in Liverpool. The practice’s project base includes repairs and new work associated with cathedrals, viaducts, scheduled monuments, churches, castles, and scheduled, listed and traditional buildings located throughout the North of England, Wales and Southern Scotland.

This opportunity is to join a specialist team of Engineers to assist in inspecting historic structures and buildings, and carrying out measured surveys followed by structural analysis. You will also prepare drawings in Vectorworks for new construction projects, attend site meetings and take notes. There will be opportunities to interface with clients, contractors and sponsors.

You must be observant and pay attention to detail and have an interest in the historic environment and preferably have some knowledge of engineering and architectural history. Independent transport is essential, mileage is paid at a reasonable rate.
​
You must be familiar with Autocad or Vectorworks, and design principles and Eurocodes in all the main structural materials, be literate and fluent in communicating and report writing. A degree class 1 or 2.1 is expected, with an objective to become a Chartered Engineer. As this is a permanent post and an ambition to progress within this specialist field is expected.

This position is based in our Cumbria office, but some home working can be a discussed. Staff are typically out of the office on visits 1-2 days a week. We are looking for a long-term commitment. The starting salary will be competitive.
