Newsham Bridge

Grade I listed early Victorian bridge built as part of a Capability Brown design from a century earlier. The bridge spans an artificial lake and is a major part of the designed landscape.

Lands Viaduct

Only the masonry abutments remain of an important viaduct along the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway. Built in 1863, the viaduct originally had four spans of two very large iron trussed girders. The site is a Scheduled Monument.
Detailed visual and drone survey of the west abutment and design of sensitive repairs for scheduled monument consent application. Preparation of a heritage impact assessment.
Bennerley Viaduct

Status Completed
One of only two remaining wrought and cast iron railway viaducts. The viaduct has metal lattice girders, spanning between metal trestles and supported on masonry plinth bases and buttress. We evaluated the initial assessments and repair strategy prepared by others, applied conservation principles to secure listed building consent. The project was partially funded by Historic England, and sensitive repairs were carried out on site.
Stroan Viaduct

Status Completed
Masonry arch bridge located at the south of Stroan Loch. The viaduct was originally part of the Portpatrick to Wigtownshire Joint Railway before its closure. A detailed survey and repair scheme was developed to strengthen the viaduct to take the loading of 44 tonne timber extraction vehicles. Works involved stabilising the slipped voussoir stones, two reinforced concrete beams were cast at deck level and tied into the existing concrete slab and voussoir stones.

Status Completed
Grade II listed and a Scheduled Monument, Brusselton Incline is one of the relatively few structures still intact along the Stockton and Darlington Railway of 1825. The world's first passenger railway.
After a number of years of vandalism and neglect, the bridge has been repaired; masonry consolidation, repointing and improved access for the public with a viewing area at one end. Repairs funded by Historic England.

A masonry viaduct on the Haltwhistle to Alston Railway which was closed in the 1970's and fell into disrepair. Eventually funds were acquired and as lead consultant, we were responsible for extensive repairs; complete repointing, provision of new gates and a new staircase for access. The deck was relaid with new drainage to preserve the stonework.

Netherby Suspension Bridge

Status Completed
A Grade II listed suspension bridge over the Border Esk was carefully repaired with new suspension cables, connected to the old hangers where possible. The bridge carried pedestrian traffic across the river and is on the site of Sir Walter Scott's poem 'Lochinvar'.

A Grade II listed masonry arch bridge that was almost completely rebuilt using local materials. The bridge is located on a bridleway in a rural setting making access difficult for plant or machinery.

Stenkrith Millenium Footbridge

A new two span steel footbridge that provides level access across Stenkrith gorge near Kirkby Stephen. It opens up an art and tourism route, the Poetry Path, along a disused railway track and a popular viewing spot of the geologically important river gorge.
