STOCKTON & DARLINGTON RAILWAY
Brusselton Incline
This is one of a relatively few structures still intact from the Stockton and Darlington railway of 1825 . Indeed it is the best surviving accommodation bridge on the line – the others having been demolished, altered or have had their decking or arches removed. It belongs to the pioneering phase of railway design and is of international significance as being among the earliest railway structures in the world.
The Bridge has suffered from vandalism and neglect but has now been fully repaired with improved access for the public.
